Agnihotra, a Vedic fire ritual, is deeply rooted in the Hindu tradition and is performed at sunrise and sunset to align with cosmic rhythms, purifying the environment and promoting health and spiritual growth. This ritual involves offering rice and ghee into a sacred fire while chanting specific mantras to create a harmonious atmosphere and foster a connection with divine energies.
The practice has numerous benefits, including improved concentration, reduced stress levels, and enhanced mental clarity, contributing to both individual and communal well-being.

Meaning of Agnihotra Mantra
In the Agnihotra mantra the word "Prajapati" is not for a person but for the creator of the universe God Shakti. The Agnihotra mantra embodies a message of gratitude, acknowledging the divine force that crafted the universe. It is a homage to the essential elements of Sun and Fire, which sustain both life and matter, and an act of yielding to the supreme energy, Shakti, with the humble realization that "Idam na mam" — all that exists is not mine, but belongs to the divine Shakti.

Agnihotra Ritual – Step-by-Step Procedure
Before You Begin
- Purchase the Agnihotra Kit from agnihotraurja.com
- Download the Agnihotra Buddy app (free on App Store & Play Store) to get the exact sunrise and sunset timings for your location
Setting Up Your Space
Choose a quiet place, free from distractions — keep mobile phones in silent mode and TV or other equipments switched off
All family members should sit on the floor on a mat in Sukhasana (cross-legged) pose
The family member performing the Ahuti (offering) must:
Face East during the Sunrise Agnihotra
Face West during the Sunset Agnihotra
Other family members may sit around the Havan Patra in any direction
Preparing the Offerings
Apply Cow Ghee (clarified butter) onto the rice grains
Divide the ghee-coated rice into two equal portions of approximately 10–12 grains each
Apply a small amount of ghee onto the cow dung cakes
Setting Up the Havan Patra
Place the cow dung cakes inside the Agnihotra Havan Patra in the shape of a pyramid, with the central piece at the top
Place one camphor cube in the centre of the cow dung pyramid and ignite it using a matchstick
Chanting & Mantras
Play or slowly chant the Mahamrityunjay Mantra to release negative energies
Follow with the Gayatri Mantra to attract positive vibrations from the environment
Performing the Ahuti
At the exact sunrise or sunset time shown on the Agnihotra Buddy app, perform the Ahuti by offering both portions of ghee-coated rice into the fire
Chant the two mantras simultaneously as you make the offering. Offer the rice with your right hand while placing your left hand gently on your chest as a gesture of surrender and gratitude.
After the Ritual
Remain seated until the fire fully subsides — do not get up before this.
Apply the fresh Agnihotra ash as a tilak on the foreheads of all family members. Ash has medicinal properties and can also be stored in a separate container for use as an effective fertiliser for kitchen gardens and agriculture
Clean the Havan Patra with lemon and soap, and set it aside ready for the next ritual
