FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions on Agnihotra

What is Agnihotra?
Agnihotra is an ancient Vedic fire ritual performed at sunrise and sunset using a copper pyramid, dried cow dung, ghee from a Desi cow, and unbroken brown rice. It is the simplest form of Yagya — a fire offering that purifies the atmosphere and restores balance in the environment.
Why must Agnihotra be done at sunrise and sunset?
The Agnihotra ritual is based on two important and precise biorhythmic transitions (sunrise and sunset) when the Earth's energies shift. As per ancient vedas, Agnihotra is tuned to this rhythm — the fire, the chant, and the timing work together to offer positive effects on environment, physical and emotional aspects of living beings. Outside these moments, the effect is not the same.
which cow's ghee Should I use for agnihotra? Does it matter?
Yes. Only Organic A2 ghee from an indigenous Desi cow breed — such as Gir, Sahiwal, or Tharparkar should be used without any adulterants or preservatives. The molecular structure of A2 ghee produces a qualitatively different smoke when combined with the other materials. You can buy online on Amazon, Bodhishop, Flipkart, BAPS, Organic India etc.
Can anyone perform Agnihotra? Do I need to take a bath beforehand?
Yes. It requires no initiation, no religious affiliation, and no prior experience. The procedure takes under ten minutes and can be learned from the videos in our resource Library.
As for bathing, while it is a beautiful way to begin any sacred practice, it is not mandatory. A simple wash of the face and hands — offered with a clean and focused mind — is enough to begin your Agnihotra.
What does the Agnihotra fumes / smoke actually do?
Research indicates that Agnihotra smoke carries bioactive compounds that reduce airborne pathogens, nourish soil microbiota, and have measurable effects on air quality. The ash left behind is itself a potent medicinal and agricultural input.
How do I get started?
A complete Agnihotra kit — copper pyramid, stand, and guide — is available in our store. Download the mobile app - Agnihotra Buddy on your smart phone (available on Play store and app store) The procedure page walks you through every step.
